In order to transform Math education in our classroom, we will implement 21st Century skills. Instruction will include inquiry-based learning, engagement, challenges, interdisciplinary connections, collaboration, and the opportunity for discourse.
“Blended learning is probably the most important initiative in the ministry because it supports all other ministry priorities. Blended learning opens the door to individualized instruction for student success, credit rescue, credit recovery, and differentiated instruction for all students and in doing so supports a wide variety of School Improvement Plans.” “Blended learning supports the other initiatives because it facilitates student success by allowing students to control their learning through working at their own pace, using personally relevant assignments and providing info to parents, which allows them to be partners with teachers in guiding their children.” (eLearning Ontario)
By implementing eLearning / project-based learning in our classroom, we will be creating some independence for students. We will then be able to support the students in learning to engage with the iPad in the classroom along with the classroom content. We will reduce teacher prompting, and increase learning. Students will become more active participants in their learning. Students will be engaged in creative, critical thinking when they are solving problems, and discover that there are multiple ways to arrive at the same solution to any given problem.
